Battlefield 3 is the sequel to popular FPS shooterBattlefield 2.

Battlefield 3 will feature maps in the following cities and areas: Paris, Tehran, Sarajevo, Sulaymaniyah, New York, Wake Island and Oman. These maps include different arenas such as the Urban Streets, the Metropolitan Downtown Areas as well as the Open "Outback" landscapes suited for the much vehicle combats.

In the Campaign the player will take on the role of Staff Sergeant Henry "Black" Blackburn who serves in the United States Marine Corps. In the first scene (video attached in this post) Staff Sgt Black leads a 5 man squad to find, and safely return a US squad who was investigating a possible chemical weapons site. Black's squad gets engaged in a gun battle and this is where the trailer ends (unfortunately).

According to EA and DICE the game will be run on their new engine "Frostbite2" and they have published on their site that this will provide:

"...enhanced visual quality, a grand sense of scale, massive destruction, dynamic audio and character animation utilizing ANT technology as seen in the latest EA SPORTS™ games."

Unfortunately at this time neither EA nor DICE have published the full storyline for the game, but from the trailer we can start to get the idea. Hopefully closer to the date we will have more information on Battlefield 3. Here's a preview of the first game play scene:

Battlefield 3 and COD: Modern Warfare 3 are set to go head to head this year with both their games previewed at the E3 Expo and set to be launched later this year.
