We’ve come such a long way.  For some of us, it’s been a battle stretching back as far as Ragnaros and Nefarion, and for others the last few years have been a constant struggle to amass the most HKs possible or push hard to become an Arena Gladiator.  Whichever way you play World of Warcraft, the entire ball game is about to change.  Wrath of the Lich King marks another massive shift in WoW, bringing back a lot of pre-BC awesome while adding brilliant new content that will blow players minds.

This is a massive review for a massive game. Below you will find links through to individual examinations of each integral component of added content: once you have read up on what you want to, you will find a generalised wrap-up on the following page. Enjoy!

In the last expansion, The Burning Crusade, the big bad that players were trying to kill was Illidan Stormrage, the night elf turned insane demon (with a little tacked on Kil’Jaeden action in patch 2.4). In Wrath, all sights are set on Arthas Menthil, the fallen prince of Lordaeron that betrayed the human kingdoms and became their most fearsome enemy - The Lich King. Every race from both Horde and Alliance have a vested interest in taking Arthas down, with some more motivated than others. Focusing this expansion on the Lich King allows Blizzard to pull out all the stops when it comes to lore and make the kind of immersive experience that Burning Crusade failed to be.

Many players hated BC, many loved it.  Whether you enjoyed the content or not, you can’t deny that it felt largely unfocused. The whole point of the expansion was supposed to be a fight against the Burning Legion. While there was a whole lot of that, the dungeons and quest lines took you in all kinds of directions leaving people wondering what the hell it had to do with the overall story. In Wrath, there is still a little of that but, for the most part, the story the players experience fits into the overall drive to get to Icecrown and confront Arthas directly.  This is accomplished by making players feel like part of the world, instead of an observer. Many never even saw Illidan or barely knew who he was, but when you are in Northrend, the presence of Arthas can be felt everywhere and you will even run into him from time to time.  In quests and dungeon encounters, Arthas makes appearances and becomes involved in the players journey.
