Here’s a few fun facts when it comes to Left 4 Dead; the game is oodles of fun, it’s super-addictive, but it’s also a few weapons, levels and enemy varieties short of your average retail game. While Valve clearly know their shit when it comes to punching out titles that are fun, Left 4 Dead has been fairly criticised for being a little light-on in the content department. The game seems to have been designed around the logic of extended life via DLC and Valve has confirmed that the first lot of downloadable content is on its way.
While there isn’t word of a solid release date or price tag at this point, a recent podcast over at Kotaku with one of Valve’s writers, Chet Faliszek, has confirmed the existence of the much-coveted DLC. The bad news is that the DLC announcement was expected before Christmas but the good news is that the downloadable content is set to focus on adding new scenarios with an emphasis on stuff that can actually be played. The DLC is set to be simultaneously released for the PC and Xbox 360, with PC users set to soon receive the SDK that will allow user-created content to start springing up online.
We expect that the PC DLC will be free to download, although we doubt that the Xbox 360 content will fare the same, as free DLC on Microsoft’s console seems to be few and far between (we’re happy to be disproven on this point though). Regardless of the cost, the additional content should inject an extended lease of life into the addictive zombie shooter.
