10. SAINTS ROW 2
What it is: GTA clone. But don’t let that put you off. The first Saints Row game was a promising start, with solid open-world gameplay but sadly lacking GTA’s savage wit. The sequel improves in almost every regard, making this a definite contender. Why you want it: The combat is better than GTA’s. You can customise your character and the game includes both co-operative and competitive multiplayer. The storyline and humour have all come along since the first and there are aircrafts and jetskis. Do you need anything else?

9. BIOSHOCK
What it is: One of the biggest games of last year, re-vamped just for the PlayStation 3. BioShock is a first-person shooter set in an underwater dystopia. It has RPG-like elements, an engrossing story and an atmosphere like nothing else you’ve ever played. And for veterans it is the spiritual successor to the famed System Shock games.
Why you want it: BioShock isn’t quite the masterpiece some would like to think, but it’s definitely a landmark game that sits happily in the ‘must play’ category. Unique and unforgettable the first time through, the PlayStation 3 version features some excluisve challenges and extras that should encourage even those who’ve played it on another platform to re-visit.
