EA announced today that Rock Band will finally be seeing the light of day in Australia on November 7th. Yep the last bloody horse is about to cross the line. The game will have been out overseas for over a year by then, and was originally expected to be released here in Feb 2008 before disappearing off the release schedule altogether (apparently because of faults in the design of the peripherals).
Still its exciting news, but what is the hidden agenda here?
While we love the tracks that are available in Rock Band (easily beating what Guitar Hero offers), the game will be pretty much superseded the day it comes out. That’s right Aussies, Rock Band 2 is already in overseas stores, meaning that we are a whole iteration behind our gaming brothers and sisters from across the sea. That’s out-dated with a capital OD.
And perhaps even more to the point, Guitar Hero: World Tour will release the week after and will not only offer the full band experience (with better peripherals in our experience), but also a music studio which will allow you to create your own music from scratch. A significantly more next-gen feature that Rock Band lacks.
This move just stinks of a corporate pissing comp and you better believe gamers are the urinal cakes. For all money it looked like EA were going to drop Rock Band from ever seeing an Aussie release and just bring us up to speed with Rock Band 2 sometime in early 2009, but they’ve now decided to just throw some stock – probably recalled from the territories that have Rock Band 2 on their shelves – out into the marketplace to try and derail the GH train five days before it hits Launch Station.
