Mario Kart World on Switch 2 in Australia: Price, Stock, and Whether You Need the Console

World is the Switch 2 living-room game. That does not mean you should panic-buy a console at midnight retail.

Amelia's Mario Kart World review is the play argument (8.8). This is the till argument.

The hardware gate

World is a Switch 2 game. If your living room is still OLED or Lite, you are shopping for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, not a sequel that will not boot. That sounds obvious. Australian product pages still get this wrong in the comments.

If you do not own the Switch 2, read our launch lineup before you treat a Kart as a console reason. A household that will also play Donkey Kong Bananza has a better maths story than a household that wants twelve online races and then a dusty dock.

Where to buy it in Australia

Live prices move. The pattern does not:

  • Nintendo eShop AU — instant, full sticker, sales are shy.
  • EB Games — physical, preowned later, the occasional member price.
  • JB Hi-Fi — physical, quiet catalogue discounts, good when you are already in the store for a TV.
  • Amazon AU / Big W — chase only when the landed price actually undercuts EB/JB. Watch shipping on "bargain" listings.

A bundle (console + World) is worth it when the Kart is effectively cheap against standalone. It is not worth it when the bundle is just Nintendo hiding the same two stickers in one box.

Stock, used copies, and the week-two reality

Launch weekends in Australia still produce the empty-shelf photo. Week three produces the used copy. If you can wait, you will pay less and you will still have the same rainbow road.

Online play needs a Nintendo Switch Online membership. That is a second subscription on top of whatever you already pay for Plus or Game Pass. Local four-player does not. If your NBN node hates Saturday nights, World is still a couch game first — which is the review's actual point.

Does it replace 8 Deluxe?

On Switch 2: yes, it becomes the default cartridge you put in when people come over.

On Switch 1: no replacement exists. Keep 8 Deluxe. Invite people who have not upgraded. Do not let a search result for "mario kart world review" talk you into a console you will not feed.

Mario Kart World on Switch 2 in Australia: Price, Stock, and Whether You Need the Console: quick answers

How much is Mario Kart World in Australia?
It sits in Nintendo's premium first-party band on eShop AU. Physical at EB Games and JB Hi-Fi is often the same sticker, sometimes less during a catalogue sale. Check live prices — we do not freeze them.
Is Mario Kart World on Switch 1?
No. It is a Switch 2 game. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe remains the Switch OLED / Lite option.
Should I buy a Switch 2 just for Mario Kart World?
Only if the household will also play Bananza, first-party follow-ups, and the dock will stay warm. A single Kart is a brutal way to justify console money.
