Is Silksong Worth Buying in Australia?

A scored 9.2 is not a blank cheque. Here is the AU-dollar version: who should tap buy tonight, and who should leave Hornet in the wishlist.

Jess scored Hollow Knight: Silksong a 9.2. My job on the news desk is ruder: is it worth your money on an Australian storefront this week.

Short answer: yes, at indie price, if Hallownest already liked you. No, if you bounced off the first game's runbacks and were hoping Team Cherry had become FromSoftware-lite with a difficulty slider.

What you are actually paying for

Silksong is not a $79–$129 Nintendo first-party. It is a Team Cherry download. That single fact does more for the value case than any adjective. A 15–20 hour first ending with a nasty optional afterlife is a fair exchange at Steam AU / eShop AU indie money. It is a worse exchange if you only have four hours and a low tolerance for dying in a moss.

Check the live numbers yourself — we do not freeze prices in a CMS:

  • Steam AU — usually the cheapest digital, plus a sale calendar that actually happens.
  • Nintendo eShop AU — convenient if the Switch is the only machine you finish games on. Rarely the cheapest.
  • Physical — if a Limited / special run exists in your suburb, treat it as merch, not a bargain.

Switch vs PC

I am not restating the review. I am stating the commute.

Switch is the correct copy if Silksong will be a handheld habit. Performance in our sessions was stable enough in opening biomes; denser rooms are why you should keep the dock option in your head.

PC is the correct copy if you already play Metroidvanias at a desk and you care about the last 10% of frame time. Steam also makes "I'll refund this if the first hour is a brick wall" a real consumer right. eShop does not.

Same game. Same Hornet. Different furniture.

Who should wait

Wait if you never finished Hollow Knight. Play the original first; it is cheaper, kinder in the opening, and it teaches the language Pharloom assumes you speak.

Wait if you only want a cozy map-cleared. Silksong will not be that in week one.

Do not wait for a "complete edition." Team Cherry does not operate like a live-service calendar. The game that shipped is the game.

Who should buy tonight

You 100%'d Hallownest. You still think about the tram. You have a Sunday. Buy it. Read the scored review for the combat argument, the first-hours preview if you want spoiler-light texture, and keep the Silksong hub bookmarked for later coverage.

Is Silksong Worth Buying in Australia?: quick answers

Is Hollow Knight: Silksong worth buying in Australia?
Yes if you finished Hollow Knight and still like a mean Metroidvania. It is indie-priced on Steam and Nintendo eShop AU, not a $120 first-party launch.
Should I buy Silksong on Switch or PC in Australia?
Switch if you want handheld deaths on the tram. PC if you want the cleaner long-session frame pacing. The game is the same needle.
Is Silksong harder than Hollow Knight?
The opening hours are less kind. The late game is denser, not cruel for sport. If runbacks made you quit Hallownest, Pharloom will not convert you.
