This is not a replacement for the till guide. If you need prices, conversion maths, and the EA Play asterisk, read Xbox Game Pass Ultimate Australia. This is the Monday reminder we keep having to write because Microsoft's ladder and the Facebook Marketplace codes do not use the same dictionary.

As of this filing (6 September 2026) the Australian storefront still talks in four voices:

  • Essential — library, fewer extras, the cheap sticker that is not the marketing.
  • PC Game Pass — Windows only. Fine if that is your whole hobby.
  • Premium — console + PC + cloud, a smaller day-one promise.
  • Ultimate — the top SKU. Cloud, partner extras, the day-one first-party pitch. About AU$25.95 a month on the live Xbox AU page.

Those numbers move. The official Ultimate page wins an argument with this paragraph.

The code that is not the SKU you wanted

JB Hi-Fi and the usual digital kiosks still sell 12-month cards for a Game Pass tier. The trap is treating every green box as Ultimate. Read the SKU. Essential for a year is a perfectly decent library purchase. It will not give you the cloud-and-partners story your cousin described.

Stacking leftover months through the Microsoft account converter is how a lot of Australians still cheapen Ultimate. It is also how people accidentally extend the wrong tier and then write us as if we ran the store.

What Ultimate is for this month

You bounce between a Series X/S, a Windows PC, and the occasional cloud session when the NBN is in a mood. You actually finish two catalogue or day-one games. You want the partner stack without a second subscription.

What it is not for: one sports title you already own, and a hope that GTA 6 will turn up in November. Rockstar does not do that. Our Xbox archive is the library we actually cover.

If you only needed the reminder: open the live comparison, match the name on the receipt to the name on the store, and do not let a $12.95 card call itself Ultimate in a group chat.

Game Pass AU Tier Reminder: Ultimate Is Still Not the Only SKU: quick answers

How much is Xbox Game Pass Ultimate in Australia right now?
Microsoft's AU store has been listing Ultimate at AU$25.95 a month. Confirm on xbox.com/en-AU before you argue with a housemate — Microsoft has already rewritten the ladder in 2026.
Is a cheap Game Pass code the same as Ultimate?
Often no. Essential and Premium codes show up at retailers with friendlier stickers. Read the SKU name on the card. Essential is not Ultimate.
Should I convert PC Game Pass to Ultimate?
Only if you will use console or cloud this month. If you live on Windows and never touch a Series X, PC Game Pass is the cheaper honest SKU.
